Yes, I admit it…I enjoy MMORPG’s. I’ve played World of Warcraft for a while. Have some great toons, but lately it has gotten boring. I don’t really enjoy the end game content, the raiding and group work. I’m a sightseer.
Wanting something new, I finally broke down and decided to try out Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO). The truth is, I didn’t try it sooner, because it only runs on the windows platform. It makes me sad. I understand the reasons, and don’t plan to get into that here, but I wish there was more emphasis on open platform development.
Anyway, to run the elusive LOTRO, I setup a bootcamp partition on my Mac Pro, installed windows xp, and setup LOTRO.
It was worth it. Lord of the Rings Online is a gorgeous game! Perfect for my sightseer style of play. The screen prints do not do the live view justice.
Game play is straight forward, but there are enough differences from WoW to make it interesting. Also, the differences in crafting, traits, classes… very refreshing.
If you are waffling about trying LOTRO, it is worth installing the free trial just to have a look. See you online.

Thank you for your review. I too have a Mac Pro running XP and was curious to try LOTRO but didn’t want to waste my time if it wasn’t going to run well. I think I will give it a go when I get home tonight. It may the end of WoW for me
Off to middle earth!
